Workplace Community Care: Developing a Practice of Emotional Intelligence

In  a diverse workplace where people bring multiple identities, experiences, personalities, skills, and professional roles, we must be even more committed to the practice of community care. Through this workshop series, participants engage the concept of Emotional Intelligence through a lens that centers inclusion, increased self and communal awareness.

Part 1 of this workshop introduces emotional intelligence (EQ) as a framework to develop increased awareness and management of our actions.

We will complete a self-awareness inventory to explore our emotional narratives and create strategies to communicate our needs and boundaries with others.

Part 2 will explore how social identity and power contextualize the nature of our EQ in communication and relationships with others. We will

expand upon the tools learned in Part 1 by learning to respond to common microaggressions through a practice of cultural humility and identity

consciousness.

Builders of the Dream: Architects of the Civil Rights & Freedom Movements

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not the sole builder. This dynamic presentation and workshop highlights and honors the individuals who served as major contributors and architects of the Civil Rights and Freedom Movements — visionaries and organizers who shaped the course of history but are rarely centered in the retelling of it. Participants will examine how sexism, classism, and the politics of respectability determined who was allowed to be visible, credited, and recognized as a "leader" — and whose contributions were deliberately pushed to the margins.

Through honest discussion and guided reflection, participants will reconnect with a fuller, more complete picture of this history and begin identifying meaningful ways to carry the work forward in their own lives.

What You'll Walk Away With:

A richer and more expansive understanding of the Civil Rights and Freedom Movements that goes beyond the names and faces most commonly

taught

Knowledge of key unsung architects — including women, queer individuals, and working-class organizers — whose labor and vision were

foundational to the movement

A critical lens for understanding how sexism, classism, and respectability politics have historically shaped — and continue to shape — whose

leadership is recognized and valued

Practical, personally meaningful ways to contribute to the ongoing dream of racial equity and civil rights within your personal and professional life

Legacy: Learning from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Coretta Scott King

There is so much to learn from the lived experiences, approaches, and writings left by the Kings. In this workshop, participants will explore the historical impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, examining how their experiences, values, and philosophies shaped their perspectives and life's work. Mrs. King often does not get enough credit and recognition for her impact, so her words and work are centered. Through reflection and discussion, we will draw meaningful connections between their legacy and our own lives today.

What You'll Leave With:

A deeper understanding of the Kings' individual and collective legacy and their lasting impact on society

Knowledge of key philosophies, writings, and approaches that continue to shape movements for justice and equity

A personal sense of how you can contribute to and carry forward the Kings' dream in your own life and community

Honoring Black LGBTQIA+ History

This workshop is a celebration and a storied truth telling — honoring the trailblazing icons and ancestors who led movements, cultivated life-saving community spaces, and who often looked fly doing it. Participants will receive a rich, in-depth history lesson on often overlooked and hidden Black LGBTQIA+ figures and acts of resistance. We will also explore the concept of intersectionality and how it continues to shape the lived realities of Black LGBTQIA+ people today.

What You'll Leave With:

A broader and more inclusive understanding of Black history that centers LGBTQIA+ voices and contributions

Knowledge of key figures, moments, and movements that have been historically marginalized or erased

A working understanding of intersectionality and how it applies to identity, community, and lived experience

Greater capacity to show up as an informed, affirming ally and advocate within your workplace and community
